Our Top 6 Gaming Headsets 2019

Our Top 6 Gaming Headsets 2019

Anyone who tells you that you don’t need a proper gaming headset to take gaming seriously definitely has zero competitive experience.

While it’s technically true that you can play any video game and compete using basic peripherals, the experience just isn’t good. The difference between proper gear and basic ones is night and day; you won’t even try to go back using your old gaming headset once you’ve invested in a proper one.

Here are some of the most notable advantages of using a proper gaming headset:

  • Positional advantage - Using a proper gaming headset, especially those with 7.1 surround sound, allows you to hear literally everything that’s going on in the game and very few that’s happening outside if at all. This allows you to pinpoint where enemy gunfire is coming from, which is especially important in competitive titles.
  • High-quality sound - Gaming for hours on end can get very tiring quickly if you’re using a bad headset with spotty sound quality. On the other hand, investing in a quality headset results in good quality sound. This can make gaming a more pleasurable and immersive experience.
  • A proper microphone - Typing is okay when you’re playing casually, but in competitive titles, where every second counts, it’s much better to talk to your teammates. Even though cheaper gaming headsets do come with microphones (at least, some of them do), the quality isn’t really that good. You may even be mistaken for a child as you’re talking, just because the microphone didn’t pick up the bass in your voice. When that happens, good luck commanding respect from your team.
  • Comfort and quality - Good gaming headsets have been tailor-made to fit a variety of configurations, from children to adult heads, to ensure proper comfort despite gaming for hours. From the materials used down to the design, as well as the ease-of-access of controls, everything has been planned out precisely to make using the headset convenient.

These are just some of the advantages that you can get from using and investing in a quality gaming headset.

Unfortunately, with the growing popularity of the esports industry, and gaming, in general, many manufacturers are starting to take advantage and are flooding the market with all sorts of “gaming-oriented” peripherals.

This wide selection of products available can make it confusing for the average gamer to choose which one fits their needs and preferences best.

Having said that, we took the time to round out the best gaming headsets available today, from the ones that comes with all the bells and whistles, and those who are content with packing just the right set of features neatly on a durable and dependable pair of cans.

1. Razer Thresher 7.1 (Wireless)

  • Comfortable fit, perfect for many hours of gaming.
  • It’s easy to get a solid 12++ hours of quality audio performance on wireless mode.
  • Powerful audio sounds.
  • Swappable ear cushions, just in case yours start to get up there in wear and tear.

At 618 AED, the top-of-the-line Razer Thresher definitely isn’t cheap. But, for its price, it also comes packed with a lot of features, most of which it delivers on.

The comfortable, plush fit and extensive wireless battery life makes the Razer Tresher 7.1 perfect for back-to-back gaming marathons, so long as you give it time to charge in between sessions. And, with its excellent surround sound audio performance, it’s easy to get lost in what you’re doing and not notice that you’ve been playing already into the wee hours of the night.

Perhaps the biggest con is that, compared to other gaming headsets with virtual surround sound, the Razer Tresher 7.1’s implementation is middling at best.

This, and the lack of a 3.5mm port, aren’t big deal-breakers, but they’re definitely worth taking note of when you’re shopping for your daily drivers.

2. Corsair Void PRO RGB (Wireless)

  • Fairly affordable compared to other competition.
  • Excellent sound and recording quality
  • Sleek, but divisive aesthetic design.
  • Memory foam formula keeps the headset comfortable despite hours of use.

The Corsair Void PRO RGB is such a good headset that we’ll kick things off with the caveats.

First, the Void PRO RGB has no wired mode. That’s a big no-no for people who tend to forget to charge their wireless headsets. Second, the microphone is okay-ish at best. It can make your teammates understand what you’re trying to say, but the quality is far from okay if you want to use it while streaming on Twitch or making videos on YouTube. Third, the battery life is definitely in the lower end, so, paired with the no wired mode, the Corsair Void PRO RGB does not warrant a must-buy immediately. BUT.

What the CORSAIR Void PRO RGB lacks, it more than makes up for with its fairly attractive price point.

As one of the “least expensive” among the more pricey gaming headsets, the Corsair Void PRO RGB makes for an excellent compromise for the average gamer who only needs a wireless headset that they can use that looks good, with excellent audio quality, and has a microphone that doesn’t make them sound like a little boy.

3. Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum (Wireless)

Easily pairs and syncs with multiple platforms.

• Extremely comfortable to use.

• Superb sound quality.

• Zero-hassle wireless performance.

By taking the G633 and making it wireless, the Logitech stumbled upon an even bigger winner.

The Logitech G633 was already fine as it is. It was one of the best gaming headsets of its class, and was even arguably better than those priced well above it. But, clearly, there was enough of a demand for the same headset, just without the wires, and so, Logitech delivered with the G933.

Of course, at 721 AED, the Logitech G933 is definitely one of the more expensive gaming headsets on our list. But, as they say, you get what you paid for.

With an excellent microphone, an even better sound quality, comfortable ear foams, and programmable colored lighting, and a boom mic that you can pretty much make invisible once the headsets go into storage, the Logitech G933 comes with a robust set of features that, despits initially expensive-looking price tag, makes it a valuable find.

4. HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro (Wired)

Supreme comfort and durability, thanks to excellent fit and auto-adjusting headband.

• Easy-to-navigate in-line controller.

• Powerful audio drivers for studio-grade sound quality.

HyperX have been delivering a number of bang-for-the-buck gaming headsets for years now, with both the HyperX Cloud and HyperX Cloud II coming into mind. The HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro takes everything that made the two headsets we previously mentioned successful and make everything even better.

Featuring soft leather padding on the drivers, with a soft padding on the headband, rest assured that the HyperX Cloud Revolver will easily be one of the most comfortable headsets you’ve ever tried. Plus, the design is quite nice as well. It doesn’t stand out, but it doesn’t look dull either. The black and red gaming theme gives it a subtle yet aggressive look and the steel headband construction all but guarantees that this headset can take quite a beating if ever you have issues with raging.

Of course, all of those are useless if the HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro’s audio quality is meh.

Fortunately, the HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro delivers, and then some. Capable of delivering a balanced blend of powerful and clear sound, the HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro is will do great, regardless of whether you’re going to use it for gaming, music, or watching movies.

5. SteelSeries Arctic 3 Bluetooth (Wireless)

Solid audio performance and battery life

• Affordable price tag.

• Simplistic look.

For a true multi-device wireless headset, you’ll want to look no further than the SteelSeries Arctic 3.

Yes, the SteelSeries Arctic 3 lacks all the amazing features that its more expensive sibling, the SteelSeries Arctic 7, has, but, what it does in return is near-seamless compatibility with all of your devices, so long as they have Bluetooth.

Sure, the SteelSeries Arctic 3 is not perfect. Its rather cumbersome software set-up and average music performance shave a few stars off of it. However, it’s as minimalistic as any gaming headset can be. Armed with a capable mic that actually does a lot better than expected, especially given its price range, the SteelSeries Arctis 3 is a perfect multi-device wireless headset for those looking for something affordable and dependable.

6. ASUS STRIX 7.1 (Wired)

Near-perfect surround sound performance.

• Versatile and easy to use USB controller.

• Seamlessly switch between HDMI and PC ports.

For a no-fuss, true 7.1 surround sound gaming headset, the ASUS Strix 7.1 has very few competition. But, at its price range, it’s definitely understandable if you’re hesitant to invest on it.

At 797 AED, the ASUS Strix 7.1 is definitely the most expensive gaming headset on our list. It’s also not wireless, which might be a deal-breaker at this price point. However, it boasts audio performance that’s significantly better compared to the others we’ve rounded up as well. Sure, the stereo performance might not be as good as you’d expected, but make no mistake, it’s still good enough for even picky listeners.

If you’re looking for an all-in-one gaming headset that can provide you with excellent surround sound, on both your PC and your gaming console, you’ll definitely be hard-pressed to find anything better than the ASUS Strix 7.1.

Finding a good gaming headset that gives you excellent value for your money isn’t easy. Hopefully, with our list, we’ve made the search a lot less time-consuming for you.
